In our Private Universe by Tracey Scott-Townsend

The idea for StoryDolls  began when Tracey was teaching a Sculpture Masterclass at The Priory Academy LSST. Inspired by the work of the figurative sculptor Giacometti, Tracey was making figurative sculptures with her students. Back in her studio, this gave her the idea to produce small dolls. She made some with her daughter and she noticed that Faye and herself had started to create elaborate tales about the little figures and that they seemed to assume a personality of their own.

Before long, Tracey began producing the cloth figures that became the backbone of StoryDolls. After Roisin, who was given into the care of Faye because of being too damaged by her forays in the jaws of Riley, the family dog; the first characters were Martha and her baby brother Sebastian. These two were followed by Grace, Poppy and Poppy's twin sister Effie. The characters were then rapidly joined by Fenris, Seth and Tallulah, each carrying their own stories which seemed to spring as spontaneously into life as the personality of the character.

Tracey and her husband Phil live in a tall house overlooking Lincoln's South Common  with their six children and two labradors. Phil's the one who has created the StoryDolls  website and has made it possible for Tracey to spend so much time working on the characters. It's really exciting for both of them to embark on this StoryDolls advenure together.

StoryDolls went out for the first time on Sunday 25 April, making their debut at Lincoln Artists Market at the bottom of Steep Hill. We are looking forward to hearing back from all the interesting contacts we made. Further 'Live' dates at Lincoln Artists Markets are the last Sundays of the months until September, apart from August. (StoryDolls will not be at this market in July). We are also appearing at the European House of Arts event at the University of Lincoln on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th of June and at Lincolnshire Showground 'Talent Lincolnshire' arts Market, on 10th July. What a busy summer!
